How Wales is using Virtual Reality Technology

Despite Wales being smaller than England, it has a huge passion for technology. This passion goes back to the days of the Industrial Revolution, during which the country was at the forefront of technological innovation. Fast forward to today and you’ll see that Wales still has a burning desire to explore and invest in emerging technology.

VR Art in Wales

Virtual reality has the potential to bring together art and science like never before. This is because it allows us to create a new world that is immersive and engaging, and also allows us to explore what happens when you combine art with technology. Art has always been an important part of human culture, and VR is bringing it into the 21st century in a big way.

Creative Wales, a Government Initiative, recently funded a ‘VR Pod’ experience. The experience by ParadropVR takes you into the skies over the towering peaks of Snowdonia.

Further to that new experience the Wales Millennium Centre has recently launched a dedicated immersive and extended reality arts venue. The venue introduces a hub for immersive technology in Wales applied to the arts, regular shows will also be hosted for those wanting to explore art in this new medium.

Medical VR in Wales

The use of VR in healthcare has grown substantially over the years and today there are many different applications of virtual reality being used in hospitals around the world. One application that was developed and funded by the Swansea Bay Health Board was a virtual Valsalva Manoeuvre.

You can find out more about the Valsalva procedure training here: Imersifi Valsalva Training

Imersifi has worked on a variety of medical training applications. Most notably Imersifi has created VR applications for the SBRI Tracheostomy Challenge, delivered to Rescape Health. The applications immerse clinicians in a range of scenarios from emergency Tracheostomy care to a Bronchoscopy training tool.

The Future

The future of virtual reality is here, and it’s waiting for you.

Virtual reality is already changing how we play games, consume entertainment and consume information. It’s also changing the way we do business and communicate with each other.

VR has gone from a promising technology to a mainstream platform that hundreds of millions of people are using on a regular basis. The VR industry is expected to grow to $80 billion by 2025.

The numbers are impressive, but they don’t tell the whole story.

What does this mean for your business? How can you take advantage of this technology?
